Upcoming Marburg Dances

Upcoming June dates for the famous Marburg Dances are:

June 5th in aid of the Show Society with the Step By Step Band.

June 12th in aid of Mt Tarampa School with the Silver Tones Band.

June 19th in aid of Ipswich Swim Club with the Diamonds Band.

June 26th in aid of the Show Society with the Silver Wings Band.

Dancing starts at 7.30 at the Show Hall, Marburg Showground, Queen Street. Entry is $10 for adults and includes supper, tea and coffee. Soft drinks are available at additional cost. Parking is plentiful and free.

Morning tea reminder

Don't forget the World's Biggest Cuppa morning tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council. It's on this Friday 28 May 2010 from 9:30 - 11:00AM.

Bring along your most interesting cup and enter the competition for the "Most Unusual Cup." At only $5 per entry it's a great way to contribute to the fundraiser.

Dinner music in the hall

The temperatures have dropped which means that it's the season for Music and Dinner in the Hall.

First up this winter will be Shane Hauschildt on Friday 4 June at the Marburg Community Hall (corner of Edmond and Queen Streets, Marburg).

The cost is $25 for the evening and bookings are essential on 5464 4624.

Playing with music

Two Marburg area residents are offering a music program for children aged 3-5.

Called Musicplay, it is designed for young children to introduce them to elements of music in a fun way. These activities include singing, dancing, percussion, glockenspiel, vocal expression exercises, theory...these are all great precursors to learning an instrument at a later stage.

Location: Rosewood Baptist Church Hall
When: Monday 9.30am and Friday 10am.

Cost: $8 per week plus a weekly levy of $50.

Historical events

On Sunday 16 May the Rosewood Scrub Historical Society will have a special ‘Open Day’ to celebrate Heritage Week. The hall, in Edmond Street in Marburg, will be open from 10am till 4 pm. Everybody is welcome. Morning and afternoon tea will be offered.

The Heritage Faire to celebrate Heritage Week which is part of Brisbane’s Living Heritage Network, will be also be held on Sunday 16 May in Woodlands of Marburg, from 10am till 3 pm. The Rosewood Scrub Historical Society will, amongst many others, have a stall on this fair.

An invitation to morning tea

Did you know 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer before age 85? By taking part in a Morning Tea and donating, you can help support these people and their families. The money we raise will help fund Cancer Council research, prevention and support, including the Cancer Council Helpline, printed and online information as well as one-to-one and telephone support groups.

The Marburg & District Residents' Association would like to invite everyone to join our community based Morning Tea. We will be running a competition for the 'Most Unusual Cup' this year, with a $5 nomination fee for each cup entered - all proceeds to the Cancer Council of course!

Hope to see you all there. Take a break and spend some time with friends and family of Marburg.'
